Shearer was a founding member of the Wisconsin Academy of Anesthesiologist Assistants (WAAA). As a WAAA board member, he played a vital role in the successful licensure of Anesthesiologist Assistants (AAs) in Wisconsin. He met with Wisconsin Medical Board members, Wisconsin Society of Anesthesiologist leaders, Wisconsin state congressional members, state senators, and lobbyists to secure licensure for anesthesiologist assistants in the state of Wisconsin. He helped pave the way for many aspiring AAs to pursue fulfilling career opportunities throughout Wisconsin.

He stands tall among his peers, having received the Frank Meyers Award for Outstanding Clinical Colleague in 2013 from the University of Wisconsin Department of Anesthesiology. His commitment to clinical excellence was further acknowledged with the David E Nagel Award for Outstanding Clinical Excellence at Emory University’s Department of Anesthesiology. He also played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of aspiring anesthesiologist assistants as he graduated as part of Emory University School of Medicine’s anesthesiologist assistant class of 1989.

Beyond the confines of the operating room, Peter finds solace and excitement on the slopes. Introduced to snow skiing by his father, He is an avid downhill (alpine) skier. The adrenaline rush from carving wide arcs on freshly groomed ski runs is matched only by the thrill of floating powder turns down steep and deep mountainsides. His passion for skiing has taken him to many challenging destinations across the Rocky Mountains, Europe, and South America.

Shearer’s love for speed extends to his passion for mountain biking and road biking. Whether navigating challenging trails or cruising on paved roads, these pursuits allow him to push his physical limits while enjoying the great outdoors.

Running initially adopted as a stress management tool, has become a consistent part of his routine. The intense aerobic workout provides numerous physical and social benefits. Trail running, in particular, offers a more leisurely experience, often shared with friends, providing a perfect blend of exercise and social interaction.

Philanthropy and Volunteering
